Volunteer Spotlight: Akanksha

- Akanksha
- 4th year CompSci major
- Hobbies: Badminton, cooking, movies, web development
It’s been a super fulfilling journey working with some incredible volunteers who share a passion for serving their community!
Akanksha
GCGP would not be able to maintain our extensive operations without the support of passionate volunteers. Here’s a little about one of our top volunteers, Akanksha:
In her first two years at UCLA, Akanksha found herself involved in clubs that revolved around her major. When she joined GCGP in her 3rd year, she found a space on campus that gave back to the community she is a part of. “I wanted a break from the project-based orgs I had been involved with thus far, and was looking for a more inclusive space that was less competitive,” she shares. “When I saw GCGP’s digital flyer on Facebook one day, I knew it checked all my boxes!”
As a caring volunteer, Akanksha recalls a unique experience with a visitor to the center: “She tried on some outfits and even asked for my opinion on how they looked on her. We had a small fashion show! She had the biggest smile on her face when she was leaving the center.”
When asked about her role in GCGP, Akanksha emphasized she was doing what she could to make UCLA a better place. “I simply see myself as a volunteer at the center — as someone who gives away a few hours of her day each week to help keep the center running, so that we can serve as many students as possible. I’m glad I have stayed with this organization because it has been a super fulfilling journey working with some incredible volunteers who share a passion for serving their community.”

GCGP Operating Remotely in Fall 2020
Even though the pandemic separates us all, GCGP is still committed to serving the UCLA community. With funds from the Basic Needs Referendum, volunteers have set up a remote system for UCLA students to request supplies. Available supplies include UCLA Store gift cards, school supplies from the UCLA Store, and Amazon products. Request your needed items today!
Referendum to Fund GCGP Passed by UCLA
While coronavirus may be keeping us at home, life goes on. During the recent UCLA USAC election, GCGP UCLA waged a successful campaign leading to the passage of the GCGP Basic Needs Referendum. The referendum, which passed resoundingly with 75% voters in approval, asked for an increase of $1 in annual school fees per student to fund GCGP’s provision of hygiene and school supplies for any UCLA student in need. The passage of the referendum provides $25000 for GCGP’s redistribution initiative and institutionalizes the provision of hygiene products and school supplies at UCLA .
We would like to thank all who have worked tirelessly or shown support, both on this campaign and at our center, to aid students in need. We’re excited to continue working with the UCLA community to serve all Bruins!
